Associate Designer, RTW

Dion Lee is a designer brand, based in New York City. The Dion Lee aesthetic is technical with an intelligent sensuality. Each collection marries innovative construction, with a consciousness of the form. Textiles are engineered to form sculptural embellishments. 

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Associate Designer to join our dynamic RTW team. 

This role reports to the Creative Director, and is pivotal in contributing to the development of four seasonal collections each year. The ideal applicant will showcase exceptional design talent, underpinned by a deep understanding of pattern making, drape, and tailoring, and a strong grasp of womenswear and menswear categories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Overseeing and managing the full design lifecycle, from initial concept through to fabric development, pattern handover, fittings, and production finalization.

- Conducting extensive research on concept development, fabric innovation, and garment construction, informed by the seasonal directives issued by the Creative Director.

- Engaging in collaboration with the Design, Merchandising, Production, and Sales teams to select fabrics and trims that align with the seasonal brief and range plan.

- Develop design concepts through extensive research, vintage sourcing, draping, textile manipulation, and other pertinent exploratory techniques. 

- Finalizing sketches with the Creative Director and Senior Designer in a timely manner to ensure alignment with the critical path and workflow in the Workroom. 

- Preparing and handing off sketches to the Pattern Maker, ensuring that all design elements and specifics of garment construction are clearly communicated and resolved. 

- Attending fittings and working in tandem with the Product Developers and Pattern Makers to ensure the design's intention, silhouette, and proportions are accurately realized and fit comments are communicated, with consideration of wearability, sales commerciality and production capability.
