Job Description:

This non-classroom faculty position is responsible for helping to administer a collaborative International Student Services (ISS) office that is in step with current immigration advisory best practices and incorporates FIT community outreach, partnership with student support services, and management and development of programs and services for FIT's international student and scholar population. The International Student Advisor reports to the Director of International Student Services in the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success.

The International Student Advisor is primarily responsible for developing and providing all aspects of student services for international students enrolled at FIT, helping to ensure the delivery of a high-quality experience for all international students. Committed to providing excellent customer service, the International Student Advisor counsels students individually and in groups, and prepares the visa documents as well as informational literature to provide accurate and timely guidance on all matters relating to the acquisition and maintenance of nonimmigrant status. The International Student Advisor participates in a college-wide effort to ensure compliance with all federal regulations and guidelines relating to the enrollment of international students, and participates in the planning and implementation of cultural, social, and educational programs promoting internationalization throughout the FIT community.

Essential Functions:
  • Serve as and perform the functions of a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DOS) Student and Exchange Visitor Programs (SEVP).
  • Assess and advise students on all matters pertaining to their nonimmigrant status, whether individually, in groups, and/or through correspondence.
  • Keep current with federal and state regulations as well as FIT and SUNY policies affecting international students.
  • Assist in ISS reporting and compliance as mandated by DHS and DOS.
  • Participate in tracking and monitoring of international students through various databases, including but not limited to BANNER, SEVIS, ISSM
  • Conduct presentations, orientations, workshops, and other informational events on matters pertaining to international students.
  • Assist in development of ISS information sessions, literature, website content, outgoing messages, reports, etc.
  • Facilitate I-20 document issuance and process related student requests, such as bank, Social Security, DMV letters and the like. Helps to maintain accuracy of all international student data.
  • Develop and help implement programs to support international students.
  • Participate in college-wide initiatives and committees to promote the strategic vision of the International Student Services office and help make international perspectives fundamental to the FIT student experience.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in international relations, or a related field required.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) in a higher education setting, including F-1 immigration regulation advisement, and compliance experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Fluency with F, J, and related federal regulations.

Salary

Starting Salary: $69,475- $102,388 per year with step increments after one year of service and annually thereafter.

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules pg. 72.

Instructor: $59,673- $69,524
Assistant Professor: $69,475- $102,388
Associate Professor: $81,317- $122,427
Professor: $99,159- $149,217

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 30 hour work week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
